Tokyo Game Show (TGS), established in 1996, is the largest gaming and interactive entertainment exhibition in Asia and one of the most influential industry events worldwide. Held annually in September at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, the show is organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) and co-organized by Nikkei BP. Over nearly three decades, TGS has evolved from a console-focused showcase into a comprehensive platform covering console, PC, and mobile games, esports, cloud gaming, VR/AR, indie games, game engines and development tools, AI applications, blockchain gaming, as well as related hardware and technical solutions.
TGS operates under a dual structure of Business Days and Public Days. The first two days are dedicated to industry professionals, attracting global game developers, publishers, platform operators, investors, IP owners, marketing agencies, technology providers, and media for business negotiations, licensing discussions, distribution partnerships, and international expansion. The latter days open to the public, transforming the venue into a large-scale experiential arena where companies conduct product demos, brand activations, and direct engagement with players.
Exhibitors range from major platform holders and leading global publishers to independent studios and emerging technology firms. Companies participate in TGS to leverage its strong media exposure in Asia for new title launches, to establish distribution and publishing partnerships within Japan and East Asia, to gather real-time player feedback through live demonstrations, and to explore cross-industry collaborations such as IP licensing, content adaptation, and merchandising.
As a strategic gateway to the Japanese and broader Asian gaming markets, Tokyo Game Show functions not only as a product showcase, but as a critical hub for ecosystem building, international business development, and industry convergence.
