Edition24 Showcasing galleries, collectors, and contemporary art markets, where exhibitors meet German and European art institutions and collector channels.
art karlsruhe - International Fair for Classic Modern and Contemporary Art 2027 is an international art fair focused on classic modern, post-war and contemporary art, held in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The fair is structured around the depth of roughly 120 years of art history, emphasising gallery presentations, face-to-face exchange and an introduction to collecting, using four halls and several themed sections to bring established artists, young galleries and institutional projects onto a single visitor route.
Exhibition areas include contemporary art and emerging galleries, classic modern, post-war modern art, works on paper, the Museum Mile, and collecting introduction and academy sections.
The fair features special presentations, including a joint special exhibition of ten important private and corporate collections from Baden-Württemberg, a display of the LBBW Collection and the academy:square academy section, and awards three prizes, two for galleries and the artists they represent and one for art creators and works in academy:square.
The previous edition brought together around 180 exhibitors and attracted around 50,000 visitors, suiting galleries, institutions and related art service providers in the classic modern, post-war and contemporary art fields.

The application period for art karlsruhe 2027 began in July 2026. Information on the application period can be found here and on art karlsruhe's social media channels. The deadline for applications for art karlsruhe 2027 is 18 September 2026.
The basic requirement for admission is that the exhibitor operates a gallery in Germany or abroad that works professionally and whose portfolio and presentation—both in the gallery space and at fairs and exhibitions—meet the standards of the fair. Only galleries fulfilling the following criteria will be admitted: 1. Proof of business registration is required. 2. Gallery activity must be the primary profession. 3. Permanent own premises are not mandatory; however, regular and professional exhibition activity is required. 4. The registered artists must correspond to the permanent gallery program and be currently visible online. Curatorial projects are exempt. In the future, increased consideration will be given to galleries actively participating in national and international artistic discourse, engaging in institutional mediation, participating in relevant art fairs, and publishing independently and with quality.
Gallery space Standard (EUR 275/sqm), from 50 sqm; Gallery space Newcomer (EUR 225/sqm), from 25 sqm (founded from 2023 and fewer than 3 participations at art karlsruhe); sculpture:square solo (EUR 10,000/100 sqm).
Yes, the friends program of art karlsruhe allows galleries to jointly design a stand space with a “befriended” gallery.
art karlsruhe is a gallery fair. Only professionally operating galleries may apply. Art brokers, self-marketing artists, and exclusively online galleries are not admitted.
After timely submission of complete application documents by 18 September 2026, the advisory board of art karlsruhe decides within six weeks, in agreement with the chair of the advisory board and Messe Karlsruhe, on admission. The advisory board is not obliged to conduct additional research. The exhibitor receives written notification of admission or rejection.
It is possible to present a one:artist show on a total stand area of at least 50 sqm, giving a concentrated insight into the work of a single artistic position. The best one:artist show receives the art karlsruhe Prize, awarded by the State of Baden-Württemberg and the City of Karlsruhe, with which exhibits worth EUR 15,000 are acquired. one:artist shows that have already been presented more than three times by the same gallery at art karlsruhe are automatically excluded from the jury process for the art karlsruhe Prize. The minimum size per one:artist show is 25 sqm. Each gallery may register only one one:artist show for the award and the subsidised area. When a gallery programme and a one:artist show are combined, structural separation is required.
The programme is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) and implemented by the Bundesverband Deutscher Galerien und Kunsthändler e.V. (BVDG) together with art karlsruhe. It honours artistic positions that, despite their quality and continuous work, have not achieved lasting supra-regional or international visibility, recognition and collectors.
Following on from re:discover, art karlsruhe has offered re:frame since 2025 as a new format for presenting artists' estates. Analogous to the one:artist show format, a gallery can book an area of 25 sqm within its stand at a reduced stand rental price for the presentation of a demonstrably gallery-represented estate. The programme is accompanied editorially and in the fair's talk programme.
start:block is a special exhibition format in which art karlsruhe galleries show concrete work proposals that are particularly suitable for getting started with art collecting. Away from the gallery stands in Hall 3, it creates a low-threshold, varied and carefully selected section that encourages interest in collecting art.
